Where to Stay in Máncora If You Want Beach Right Outside Your Door
The southern stretch of Máncora, on the beach and a short walk from the Bird House, is the most convenient option if you want real beach access — here's why, and which stay we recommend there.
“Where should I stay in Máncora?” is one of the first questions almost everyone asks before coming — and the right answer depends on what you’re prioritizing: quiet and empty beach, being in the middle of everything, or something in between.
The three areas, in short
Malecón / downtown Máncora: the liveliest part of town, with restaurants, bars, and the pier a short walk away. Good if you want to walk everywhere at night, but the beach right in front of the malecón isn’t the widest or calmest for getting in the water.
Las Pocitas and Vichayito: south of town, wider and quieter beaches, with stays spread further apart. Perfect if you’re looking to disconnect, but you’ll need a mototaxi or car to reach downtown most days.
Playa Sur, next to the Bird House: the stretch between the malecón and Las Pocitas — wide beach right there, a 10-15 minute walk to downtown, and where most of the town’s surf schools are based. It’s the area we recommend if you want real beach without losing walking access to town.
Our pick in that area: Del Wawa
Del Wawa sits right on the beach, next to the Bird House — one of the few places in Máncora where you step out of your room and you’re already standing on sand. The area is exactly that sweet spot between wide beach and being close to town.
What makes it a particularly good fit if you’re coming to surf: Pilar Surf School operates right there, at the hotel. If your plan is to take lessons, you skip the daily commute — you walk your board straight from your room to the sand.
Reference price: S/169/night (roughly $50 USD at the current exchange rate). To confirm the exact rate and availability for your dates, the best way is to message directly on WhatsApp from the listing — no middlemen or booking fees, same as everything on this site.
If surfing is your priority
If you’re also deciding when to come, we’ve already written about the best season to surf in Máncora — and about taking lessons at Pilar Surf School, which operates in the same place as Del Wawa.
