How to Get to Máncora: Airports, Flights, and Ground Transport

It’s the first question almost everyone planning a trip asks: what’s the closest airport to Máncora, and how do you get from there to town? There are three real options, and the best one depends on where you’re staying.

Talara Airport (TYL) — the closest option

Talara is, in practice, the most convenient airport for Máncora, Pocitas, Vichayito, Los Órganos, and Lobitos. It’s about 80 km from Máncora, roughly a 1 hour 15 minute drive. The flight from Lima takes about 1 hour 40 minutes, though it usually has fewer daily departures than Piura (typically 1 flight a day), so it’s worth booking ahead and checking schedules before you build the rest of your itinerary.

Piura Airport (PIU) — more flights, a bit farther

Piura is the best-connected airport in the region, with 6 to 8 daily flights from Lima and a flight time of about 1 hour 35 minutes. The distance to Máncora is around 187–200 km, which works out to roughly a 2 hour 15 minute drive. If your priority is flexible scheduling or catching the cheapest flight, Piura usually beats Talara on flexibility, even though the road trip is longer.

Tumbes Airport (TBP) — for heading further north

Tumbes has fewer daily departures (usually 1–2 flights from Lima) and makes more sense if your plan includes beaches further north, like Punta Sal, Canoas, or Zorritos. For Máncora specifically it’s usually not the most practical choice, but it’s worth keeping on your radar if your trip combines several stops along the northern coast.

Getting from the airport to Máncora

Once you land, there are two main options:

• Private transfer: operators like Mancora Travel or Elvis Taxi run direct transfers from Talara or Piura straight to your accommodation in Máncora. It’s the most comfortable option if you’re traveling with surf gear or in a group, and it lets you lock in an exact pickup time in advance.
• Interprovincial bus: if you’re on a longer overland itinerary — say, direct from Lima — companies like Oltursa, Cruz del Sur, and CIVA cover the route. The Lima–Máncora leg is about 1,165 km and takes roughly 16 hours, so it’s usually reserved for travelers already road-tripping the coast who’d rather skip flying.

Bottom line

If you’re staying in central Máncora or in Pocitas/Vichayito, Talara is usually the fastest door-to-door option. If flight flexibility and more daily departures matter more to you, Piura is the more reliable choice. And if your trip includes beaches further north, it’s worth pricing out Tumbes too.
